Canal Digital boost for Telenor Broadcast despite subs decline

Telenor’s Canal Digital pay TV arm saw subscribers drop by 7,000 in the second quarter to reach 870,000.

Canal Digital posted revenues of NOK1.165 billion (€124 million), up from NOK1.121 million thanks to currency effects.

Overall, Telenor Broadcast posted revenues of NOK1.561 billion, up from NOK1.518 billion, while EBITDA rose to NOK512 million from NOK480 million.

Revenue and EBITDA at Telenor Broadcast were pushed up by Canal Digital, largely due to currency effects. Revenue and EBITDA at Telenor Satellite and Norwegian transmission unit Norkring fell slightly over the period.

Telenor’s fixed line TV base in Norway fell slightly to 527,000, while its Swedish fixed line TV base rose lightly to 487,000.
