TDF acquires ITAS to consolidate transmission services market

French transmission services provider TDF has agreed a deal to acquire smaller rival ITAS.

TDF has struck an agreement with Gilles Bastard, ITAS’s majority shareholder, to acquire the group. Completion of the acquisition is expected before the end of the year.

TDF said that growing competition between TV distribution platforms, including the growth of fibre and IPTV, along with the reduction in the spectrum allocated to DTT following France’s ‘second digital dividend’ in April this year, meant that transmission providers need to innovate and invest to guarantee the future of the DTT platform.
