TVR names new chief
Romanian public broadcaster TVR has named Irina Radu as its new director-general after weeks of uncertainty.
Radu was acting director-general between September 2015 and April 2016 and has served as director of programmes at the broadcaster since 2013.
Her appointment was approved by both houses of the Romanian parliament, with 304 votes in favour and only eight against.
Her appointment was welcomed by the EBU, which recently withdrew member services from TVR over unpaid debts totalling CHF16 million.
Radu said: “Starting from today, Romanian Public Television has a legitimate management. I want to assure you that I will do my best so that TVR will become again what it used to be: a respected television, loved by its audience.”
