PCCW Media hits 1.2m downloads for Viu

Hong Kong-based pay TV provider PCCW Media has now logged more than 1.2 million downloads of its OTT video platform, Viu, in its home market.

The service, which has been live in Hong Kong since October, is available free for iOS and Android devices and offers TV dramas and variety shows from Korea, Japan, mainland China and Taiwan.

“Reaching 1.2 million downloads of Viu is a milestone which is very encouraging to our team,” said Janice Lee, managing director of PCCW Media Group.

“Searching and accessing entertainment online through mobile devices is a dominant trend today so I have every confidence that Viu’s success will be replicated in other markets.”

This year PCCW has also rolled out the service to Singapore, Malaysia and India.
