TERN strikes deals with Vodafone and Sky
TERN (Television Entertainment Reality Network) International is launching its ultra high definition channel Insight TV via Vodafone in Portugal and Spain.
The deals will see Insight become available on Vodafone’s new 4K-compatible set-top boxes – starting in Portugal first and then Spain after, with both launches due this quarter, according to TERN International CEO, Mariam Zamaray.
The broadcaster is also launching an HD version of the channel with Sky in the UK, with plans to offer the UHD version once Sky launches its first 4K output on its new Sky Q service later this year.
Speaking to DTVE at MIPTV in Cannes, Zamaray, said: “our conversation with Sky for Ultra HD has already started, and we will be concluding that deal as soon as possible,” predicting a UHD launch for Insight on the Sky platform this year.
TERN launched Insight TV at MIPCOM last October. The UHD channel covers reality, entertainment and sports content aimed at the millennial audience and is available around the world via satellite.
TERN currently has deals in place with SES, covering Europe North America and Latin America across two satellites; with Measat covering Asia; and with Eutelsat covering Russia and the Eastern European market. It also has a deal in place with Russian DTH operator Tricolor.
Zamary said that the company is also in conversations about brining its channel to Africa, which would give it a global footprint. She also added: “we are looking into launching our channel on other platforms such as Liberty Global and KPN across Europe.”
