Comedy Central readies slate of Snapchat originals
Comedy Central has unveiled a nine-strong slate of original programmes for messaging service Snapchat.
The Viacom comedy network has an existing channel on Snapchat Discover, Snapchat’s platform for professional content creators, and the new content will launch on this service.
“It’s been great fun experimenting with established and emerging talent on our Snapchat Discover channel,” said Kent Alterman, president, original programming, Comedy Central in the US. “It allows us to play with form and format, and the reception from our fans and the creative community has been tremendously gratifying.”
The Snapchat line-up includes Animal-Lolz, which promises to cover animal antics ‘from heartbroken penguins to alcoholic monkeys’, with comedian Joe Zimmerman presenting.
Bert’s Dreams will follow comedian and reality TV host Bert Kreischer as he shares his crazy dreams, which are brought to life in animated form.
Celebrity Chef will follow comedian Caleb Synan as he competes in reality TV cooking shows, while Guber Pool is a sketch series from comedy team Dollar Pizza.
Other new offering will include Messages From the Future in which comedian Julio Torres lives in the future and sends us urgent messages to help save us from our dark, apocalyptic fate.
There is also You’re Wrong, in which Mike Lawrence (Inside Amy Schumer) tells you why your opinions about various pop culture issues are wrong.
The content will be available exclusively on Comedy Central internationally.
“We launched our Snapchat Discover channel internationally just two months ago and are thrilled with the response from fans,” said Jill Offman, senior VP and head of Comedy Central International.
She added: “With a mission to become the home of funny across every platform internationally, this fresh new content lets us give our audiences more of what they love and expect from Comedy Central around the world.”
