Strategy Analytics: 8.7bn ‘TV addressable screens’ by 2019
By 2019 there will be a global installed base of 8.7 billion ‘TV addressable screens’ – including TVs, tablets, smartphones and laptops – according to Strategy Analytics.
Presenting at the Connected TV World Summit in London this morning, Strategy Analytics senior director, Clare Lees, said: “As we move towards multi-device, we are seeing a significant penetration of those non-traditional TV formats.
However, she added that: “it is the big screen that still leads the percentage in terms of how people are viewing” – whether it’s connecting a TV via a Now TV box or similar service, an HDMI cable or directly.
The research firm said that the current ownership figure across the US, UK, Germany, Italy and France for TVs that are capable of showing OTT and streamed content stands at 97%.
This compares to 58% ownership of OTT capable smartphones, 51% for tablets, 47% for set-top boxes, 42% for games consoles and 20% for streaming boxes.
