Magine unlocks low-cost pay TV packages in Germany
Cloud TV service Magine is now offering premium pay TV channels in Germany for the first time without any requirement to purchase any other content or service.
As of yesterday, German viewers are able to pay for stand-alone premium content packages for €2.99 per month, without needing to buy other base subscriptions or services.
Magine said the packages will include themes such as ‘Kids’, ‘Film and ‘Series’ with more to be launched in the coming months.
Magine heralded the move as a “revolutionary shift within the European TV landscape”, claiming that Germany was previously one of the most “challenging and competitive” TV markets on the continent.
It also said it marked Magine’s next steps in its journey towards providing a “truly personalised global TV service: ‘TV for Me’”.
“This new model of premium content viewing reflects an international consumer shift towards an on-demand and personalised entertainment,” said Magine TV CEO Ambuj Goyal.
“Viewers only want to pay for what they actually watch. The German TV industry is moving towards a model with frictionless content distribution, where the core value is the amazing content, and not the complex contracts.”
Sweden-based Magine launched in its home market in 2013, in Germany in 2014 and in beta in the UK last year, with more market rollouts and partnerships planned for 2016.
The service hosts brands and channels in each territory including Discovery, Fox, Nickelodeon, CNN International, BBC, Eurosport, and National Geographic.
