Viaccess-Orca launches cloud TV as a service offering

VoyageTVaaSTV technology provider Viaccess-Orca has launched a new cloud-based TV software-as-a-service offering: Voyage – TV Everywhere as a Service.

The offering, which is based on the Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure, is integrated with Akamai’s global CDN as well as Amazon Web Services’ CloudFront CDN, with the option to add  other leading independent and operator-controlled CDNs.

The service encompasses the complete content preparation and distribution workflow from transcoding to packaging, encryption, publishing, recommendations, and delivery, according to Viaccess-Orca.

The platform is underpinned by the company’s RiGHTv service delivery platform, Compass content discovery and personalisation platform and Connected Sentinel DRM system, including Viaccess-orca’s secure video player.

According to the company, the platform will enable operators to distribute content to set-top boxes, tablets, smartphones, and other connected devices based on a DRM technologies including Microsoft PlayReady, Widevine, and Viaccess-Orca’s proprietary DRM.

The offering also includes Voyage Apps, Viaccess-Orca’s own range of TV apps, as well as tools to enable operators to make money via a range of business models.

The company is currently offering free trials of the service via a dedicated website, tvaas.com. The rial includes access to the management console, iPhone and iPad mobile apps, 50GB of storage, 20 hours of video streaming, and setup for 10 subscribers and up to 20 devices.
