Vodafone TV goes live in Ireland

Vodafone has made its first move into the Irish TV market with the launch of its Vodafone TV service.

The mobile operator’s offering will include more than 100 TV and radio stations, with viewers also able to access Netflix by pressing a dedicated button for the SVoD service on their remote control.

The Vodafone TV set-top box will let users catch up, record and restart programmes, while a new TV Anywhere app will let customers watch shows while out and about.

“This is a significant move for Vodafone in the Irish market, offering a full TV service to our customers for the first time. Vodafone TV customers can build their own packages to suit their household needs and enjoy unique features such as Restart TV and Netflix at the touch of a button,” said Ciaran Barrett, head of consumer fixed, Vodafone Ireland.

The IPTV service will be available to new and existing Vodafone home broadband customers with a minimum connection speed of 40mbps.

A Vodafone Basic TV package will come with 55 channels and an add-on of either Netflix or BT and Setanta Sports. This will cost €40 for the fist six months and €70 afterwards and will also include unlimited broadband and landline calls.

A Vodafone TV Plus package expands on the Basic TV offering with more kids, comedy, documentary and music channels and Eurosport. The optional add-ons for this package are Netflix, sports or multi-room access and it will cost €80 per month after the initial six month period.
