Cable operators top Netflix December European ISP table

Cable operators topped subscription video-on-demand service Netflix’s ISP speed rankings in major European countries in December, with the major cable players in the UK, Germany and France all leading their respective rankings.

Virgin Media led the Netflix ISP league in the UK, with average speeds of 4.04Mbps, up from 3.98Mbps previously. BT cam second with 3.81Mbps, up from 3.78Mbps. Sky and EE came bottom of the leage with 3.38Mbps and 3.35Mbps respectively.

In Germany, Vodafone’s Kabel Deutschland topped the league with 4.12Mbps, while Liberty Global-owned Unitymedia dropped four places to number five slot with 3.79Mbps. Vodafone’s own network and Versatel came bottom, with 3.59Mbps and 3.04Mbps respectively.

Cable also came out on top in France, with Numericable topping the rankings with 3.89Mbps, up from 3.95Mbps, followed by Bouygues Telecom with 3.85Mbps. SFR and Free came bottom with 3.28Mbps and 3.21Mbps respectively.

In Spain, regional cable operators Euskaltel and Telecable again occupied the top two slots but changed places, with the Basque Country’s Euskaltel achieving an average of 4.15Mbps and Asturias-based Telecable achieving 4.12Mbps. Vodafone’s cable network Ono came in much lower, at number six with 3.85Mbps. Ono was nevertheless ahead of Telefónica,  with came bottom of the league with 2.86Mbps, up from its previous 2.15Mbps.

Heavily cabled The Netherlands saw Caiway and Ziggo top the list with 4.35Mbps and 4.31Mbps respectively. However, the former UPC Netherlands networks, now part of Ziggo, came bottom with 3.47Mbps, down two places.

In Italy, with no traditional cable operators, Fastweb came top with 3.63Mbps, followed by Telecom Italia and Tiscali with 3.42Mbps.
