Sky partners with Cisco on Sky Q
Sky has selected Cisco video software solutions to power its next-generation home entertainment system, Sky Q.
Announcing the partnership at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Cisco said that Sky will use Cisco’s VideoGuard Everywhere security solution to support all the advanced services in the Sky Q service – including broadcast, streaming and video downloads to a range of screens.
Cisco will also provide a suite of headend components, as well as set-top box middleware.
“Our work with Sky on this project spans the full spectrum of Cisco video solutions. Together we are supporting video delivery, content sharing, device compatibility and rights management to create the one-of-a-kind Sky Q,” said Yves Padrines, vice president, global service provider, Cisco EMEAR.
Cisco also used CES to introduce Infinite Broadcast, a multiscreen video solution for one-way and hybrid satellite and cable service providers.
Turkish TV provider D-Smart is currently working with Cisco to implement the Infinite Broadcast solution, which is the third member of Cisco’s Infinite Solutions suite.
Sky unveiled its much anticipated, advanced Sky Q home entertainment system in November and confirmed plans to launch an Ultra HD service later in 2016.
