Nagra to bring Netflix to pay TV set-top boxes
Nagra is due to bring Netflix to pay TV set-top boxes using its OpenTV 5 connectware and Netflix-supported DRM, Nagra PRM.
Nagra said it will provide a complete Netflix application STB reference solution as part of its OpenTV 5 connectware. This will deliver popular pay TV and SVOD content, which accessible from a common user interface and a single TV input.
The firm said that Nagra PRM also becomes a Netflix-supported DRM, offering content protection for Netflix content using Nagra-On-Chip-Security (NOCS) for the STB and TV.
“Netflix is breaking new ground in the way digital media is consumed around the world, and pay TV service providers are increasingly seeing the benefits of partnering with them,” said Holger Ippach, senior vice-president of middleware at Nagra.
“Through our relationship with Netflix we will enable our clients to provide a winning combination of great pay TV services and the world’s leading SVoD service so that their subscribers stay tuned in.”
The news comes after Nagra and Netflix announced an agreement in January to provide a quick time to market for Netflix services on NAGRA-enabled pay TV platforms.
Nagra is the digital TV division of the Kudelski Group and provides security and multiscreen user experiences for digital media monetisation.
Nagra’s Netflix integration will be demoed at IBC on its stand, 1.C81
