MTV partners with IM360 for VMA virtual reality
MTV in the US has partnered with immersive video firm IM360 to broadcast 360-degree, virtual reality video from this weekend’s Video Music Awards (VMAs) in Los Angeles.
Viewers on desktops can click with their mouse to get 360 degree views from the red carpet. Mobile users can download the IM360 app to get the same experience by moving their iOS or Android device in different directions.
“The VMA 360 Virtual Reality experience is the result of months of R&D and experimentation combining creative desires and emerging technologies,” said Jeff Jacobs, senior vice-president, production planning, strategies and operations, at MTV.
Colin Helms, senior vice-president, MTV Connected Content added: “Virtual reality is changing the way people see the world and we’re excited to bring this innovative storytelling tool onto the VMA red carpet ahead of this year’s show.”
