Freesat and Humax launch new Freetime set-top box

Freesat and Humax have launched a new set-top box that supports the UK free-to-air satellite operator’s connected TV offering, Freetime.

At a launch event in London this morning, Freesat and Humax unveiled the new HDR-1100S line of set-top box, describing it as the “most compact and affordable Freetime set-top box recorder to date.”

Three models of HDR-1100S boxes will go on sale in the UK from this week – with 500GB, 1TB or 2TB storage options. These will be sold initially at recommended prices of £190, £220 and £270 respectively.

All new models will be available in black and white, have integrated WiFi and will be roughly a third smaller in size than Humax’s preceding line of HDR-1000S Freetime set-top box.

The update marks the release of Humax’s second generation Freetime PVR and its third generation Freesat PVR since it first partnered with the UK service provider back in 2008.

“The new box adds even more appeal to the popular Freetime service, allowing great streaming and on-demand content to be easily accessible. Its compact size and range of colours provide further value and choice to consumers,” said Humax commercial director Graham North.

Freesat marketing director Paul Gilshan said: “We’re proud to launch a compact and low cost recorder that gives consumers an affordable alternative all for a one-off cost with no monthly subscription.”

Freesat’s Freetime service gives viewers access to a roll-back TV guide, a TV recommendation service called Showcase and a range of catch-up and on-demand apps including BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, YouTube and Curzon Home Cinema.
