nc+ teams up with Discovery to secure Polish football rights
Polish pay TV provider nc+ has secured rights to air coverage of Polish football league matches for the next four seasons after striking a new deal with the Ekstraklasa, and has teamed up with Discovery to air certain matches on Discovery-owned Eurosport 2.
Under the new deal, matches will be aired live on Canal+, with some games broadcast on Eurosport 2. The contract also allows nc+ to air Polish football on Vivendi-owned video site Dailymotion for expatriate fans.
The latest deal gives nc+ rights to air Ekstraklasa matches for the four seasons beginning this year. The pay TV broadcaster said its deal with Discovery would enable its subscribers to view all matches broadcast during the season. Under the partnership, nc+ will air six live matches, including the four most attractive matches in each round of the championship. The remaining four matches will be split between the pay TV broadcaster and Eurosport 2, which is also available on the nc+ platform.
Discovery’s involvement is in line with its stated strategy of investing in premium rights on a case-by-case basis. Discovery International president JB Perrette told DTVE in March that the group would look to team up with local pay TV providers to complement premium operator-owned sports channels.
