Ateme providing 4K encoding at French Open

ateme-blackVideo compression specialist Ateme is providing the primary live encoding platform for 4K, HEVC delivery of the French Open tennis tournament.

The images are being broadcast on the Fransat platform, which is distributing the tournament to French free-to-air broadcasting service TNT via satellite. The footage can be viewed on any 4K-compatible TV, according to Ateme.

Separately, Samsung is using Ateme’s TITAN transcoding solution, with high dynamic range support, for its SUHD TV product line.

Ateme and Samsung engineering teams have been working with colourists from Hollywood studios over the past year to “fine-tune the grading and display characteristics,” according to Ateme.

“Committed to our innovation leadership moto, Ateme is the first to release and deploy a transcoding solution with HDR support. Being part of the Samsung eco-system is a vote of confidence in both ATEME technology leadership and product quality,” said Remi Beaudouin, VP marketing at ATEME.

TITAN is a software compression solution, designed for cable, DTH, and OTT applications.

Ateme will exhibit at ANGA COM in hall 10.1, stand S20.
