Broadband and pay TV take Kabel Deutschland past €2bn milestone
Vodafone-owned German cable operator Kabel Deutschland saw its broadband and premium pay TV base chalk up solid increases in the year to March, taking its revenues passed to €2 billion mark for the full year.
Kabel Deutschland added 450,000 internet subscribers in the year to March, taking its total to 2.6 million. The company also added 224,000 net premium pay TV customers, taking its pay TV and DVR total to 2.5 million.
The company’s direct subscriber base ended the year at 7.7 million, up 95,000 year-on-year, out of a total subscriber base of 8.3 million. Theoverall RGU base grew by 874,000 thanks to the sale of additional services to existing subs, taking the RGU total to 15.8 million.
Revenue grew by 6.3% year-on-year to €2.021 billion, while adjusted EBITDA increased by 3.3% to €939 million. Overall blended ARPU increased by 7.2% over the year to €18.34.
Kabel Deutschland spent 28.3% of its revenues, or €571 million, on regular capital expenditure, and an additional €120 million on Project Alpha, the €300 million network upgrade programme it announced in 2013 after the competition watchdog, the Bundeskartellamt, blocked its planned acquisition of Tele Columbus.
