Amazon orders new kids pilots
Amazon has ordered a new season of kids pilots, with shows from prodcos including The Jim Henson Company and the creative behind shows including Hannah Montana and Gilmore Girls.
Four of the six pilots are animated projects: The Adventures of Knickerbock Teetertop, Lost In Oz, Lily the Unicorn, and Bear in Underwear. The two live-action offerings are A History of Radness and The Kicks.
Amazon will make the pilots available on its Prime Instant Video streaming service this summer and make a decision on which go to series, in part based on viewer feedback, later in the year.
Preschool show The Adventures of Knickerbock Teetertop comes from brother-sister team Adam Wilson and Melanie Wilson LaBracio ( Evergone) and animated by the award-winning Karrot Animation. It follows a small kid who wants to be an adventurer, like his granddad.
Lost in Oz targets 6-to-11s and is animated by Arc Productions (Gnomeo & Juliet)and reimagines The Wizard of Oz.
Lily the Unicorn targets the same demo and is an animated adaptation of the Dallas Clayton book series. The Jim Henson Company is producing.
Bear in Underwear follows Eddie Behr, an eternally optimistic, high energy bear, and his quirky group of animal friends and is based on the bestselling books from Todd Goldman and written by Goldman and Dave Schiff (That 70s Show).
A History of Radness comes from Andrew Green (Hannah Montana) and follows Jack and Tessie as they embark upon a music career. Henry Rollins guest stars.
The Kicks is based on a book series by US Olympic Gold Medalist football player Alex Morgan and adapted by David Babcock (Gilmore Girls). It follows a school girl and star football player attempting to turn around the fortunes of the underperforming football team at he new school.
“These new pilots will bring sophisticated stories and unique point of views that we hope will resonate well with kids and families,” said Tara Sorensen, head of kids programming for Amazon Studios.
