Spotify reportedly planning online video move
Spotify is reportedly planning to move into the online video space and is said to have held potential partnership talks with a number of multichannel networks (MCNs).
According to a Wall Street Journal report, which cites people familiar with the matter, digital video specialists that are talking to Spotify include Maker Studios, Tastemade and Fullscreen.
The report claims that Spotify approached the MCNs to discuss both acquiring content and co-creating original video series. It said Spotify has also discussed possible partnerships with traditional media companies like Time Inc.
The music streaming company could announce its video plans as early as this month, according to the WSJ.
Spotify’s video service is likely to be available to both subscribers and non-subscribers and could eventually include advertising, it added.
