Virgin Media extends TiVo deal
Liberty Global-owned Virgin Media has extended its five-year agreement with set-top box maker TiVo by another three years.
As part of the deal, the UK pay TV provider has committed to “the development of next-generation solutions from TiVo,” with further details to be announced in due course.
Virgin Media launched its first TiVo set-top deployment in 2010, and now has an installed base of 2.5 million TiVo customers who can use the box to access broadcast TV, thousands of hours of on demand programming and web-powered services such as Netflix.
“We’re pleased to continue our relationship with TiVo in the UK. Virgin Media continues to lead the UK market in bringing together the broadest choice of programming along with the best way to access it,” said Virgin Media’s chief operating officer, Gregor McNeil.
David Sandford, vice-president and general manager of TiVo’s International Operator Business, said: “Virgin Media has been among our most innovative customers, successfully deploying TiVo and leveraging our integration of linear, VOD and OTT content sources to create an unmatched offering in the UK. TiVo is proud to serve Virgin Media with critical solutions in a challenging and competitive landscape, helping to drive revenue growth and material gains in customer satisfaction.”
