KPN confirms interest as cable ops eye Belgian mobile unit

Dutch telco KPN has confirmed that it “several parties” have made approaches about a possible acquisition of its Belgian mobile subsidiary BASE following a Belgian press report that local cable operators Nethys (Voo) and Telenet had joined forces to bid for the company.

According to Belgian paper L’Echo, the two cable players, which operate in Francophone Wallonia and Flemish-speaking Flanders respectively, are in advanced talks to acquire the mobile operator.

Altice and Liberty Global, Telenet’s ultimate owner, have also been named as potential buyers for BASE.

“KPN has noticed recent rumors in the market suggesting a potential divestment of BASE Company,” the operator said in a statement.

“KPN confirms that several parties have shown preliminary interest in a possible acquisition of BASE Company. KPN is continuously reviewing opportunities in respect of executing its strategy and creating value for its shareholders. In this respect, KPN explores all of its options regarding BASE Company.”
