Google allows TV remote to control Chromecast
Google has released a firmware update for its popular Chromecast HDMI dongle that will allow users to control streaming content from the web via their TV remote control for the first time.
The upgrade supports content from OTT providers including Netflix, YouTube, ESPN, HBO Go and BBC iPlayer. However, users of the new functionality will only be able to make use of the play and pause buttons on their remote on screens that support the HDMI-CEC protocol, the standard that allows Chromecast to automatically turn on TVs.
