Digital TV homes in Latin America set to double
The number of digital TV households in Latin America is due to approximately double by 2020, despite slowing economic growth, according to new research by Digital TV Research.
The new forecast predicts that the number of digital TV homes in the region will climb from 77 million in 2014 to 152 million in 2020, with digital TV penetration of TV households rising over the same time period from just over half to 93.6%.
According to the study, nearly 10 million satellite pay TV households, 18.2 million digital cable subscribers and 5.5 million IPTV subscribers will be added between 2014 and 2020.
At the same time the number of analogue cable subscribers is tipped to fall from 18.0 million to 4.3 million.
Pay TV revenues in Latin America will grow by US$2.6 billion (€2.5 billion) between 2014 and 2020, according to Digital TV Research.
