Yle expands DTT HD offering

Finnish public broadcaster Yle has made its four HD channels available via DNA’s digital-terrestrial network.

Yle has made Yle Fem HD and Yle Teema HD, available to DTT viewers. The move will mean that Yle Fem HD boosts its DTT coverage while Yle Teema HD will be available on DTT for the first time.

The channels will be added to DNA’s current offering of Yle HD on the terrestrial network, Yle TV1 HD and Yle TV2 HD.
DNA’s new terrestrial TV network combines its two legacy terrestrial networks and is largely focused on HD channels.

Homes with terrestrial network coverage need to install two antennas: an UHF antenna pointing to Digita’s network and a VHF (DNA HD) antenna pointing to DNA’s network. Approximately 85% of Finns are covered by the combined terrestrial network.

DNA has said its goal is to match the terrestrial network channel offering with that of its cable network. With the addition of Yle’s new HD channels, terrestrial network viewers will receive 14 HD channels in total.
