Telefonica selects Verimatrix for Movistar TV security

Telefónica partnered with Verimatrix to provide “enhanced revenue security” for its Spanish IPTV service, Movistar TV.

Telefónica has deployed the Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV to protect revenues for Movistar TV’s premium channels, with service to be scaled to protect the entire offering.

VCAS for IPTV has been integrated into Telefónica’s diverse set-top box and smart TV offering, including models by ADB, Arris, Zyxel, and Samsung.

“We anticipate many advantages and cost efficiencies as a result of deploying VCAS for IPTV as it affords us the flexibility to use one solution for both legacy and future STBs, as well as the ability to deploy multiple DRMs under a unified security head-end,” said Roberto Campo, director of the service development residential segment at Telefónica.

Movistar TV currently claims 2 million subscribers in Spain and is part of Telefonica’s Fusión offering of telecommunications services and television content.
