YouSee to launch 300Mbps service

TDC-owned Danish cable operator YouSee is to launch an internet service offering up to 300 Mbps downstream on February 2. The ultra high-speed service will be available to about 20% of the company’s customers at launch, but will be rolled out across the entire YouSee footprint in the course of this year. 

The move comes alongside a DKK165 million (€22 million) investment in the company’s network over the course of 2015. The service will initially launch in Fyn (Funen), the third largest island in the Danish archipelago, and Viborg in northern central Jutland.

The company will roll it out progressively to ensure as many customers as possible have access to it in the shortest possible time, the company said.

YouSee sees the product as appealing to a relatively small number of households, at least initially. CEO Jens Raith said that the launch was, in part, about sending a signal that the coax network was a “technology with a future”.

The service will offer up to 300 Mbps downstream and 60Mbps upstream and will be priced at DKK449 a month.
