BBC launches new cloud-based News app
UK public broadcaster the BBC has launched a new version of the BBC News app across the UK.
The revamped app includes new personalisation features, although the site will still include a front page of top stories reflecting what BBC News sees as the most important and most interesting stories of the moment.
Users can find and follow the stories they are interested in by adding topics to a MyNews section from different levels of the application.
Stories are associated with topics via tags. When users tap on a tag, a collection of stories associated with that tag will be displayed.
The site will also provide access to the BBC News live channel, and a much larger range of content than before.
The service has also been moved onto a new cloud infrastructure, making it the first BBC News product to be cloud-based.
Version 3 of the BBC News app is now available on Android version 4.0 and above and iOS version 7.0 and above. The service will be available on Amazon soon.
The app was tested with a beta trial to a limited number of about 2,000 users in December.
