Kenyan broadcasters team up to order digital set-tops

A consortium of Kenyan media companies has reportedly placed orders for 150,000 digital-terrestrial set-top boxes.

According to local reports, Nation Media Group (NMG), Royal Media Services (RMS) and Standard Group (SG) have teamed up to order internet-ready set-tops that will be sold at retail for a price of KES2,000-2,500 (€18-23).

The consortium, Africa Digital Network, has said that a further one million boxes are expected by the end of March.

A request by the consortium’s members for more frequencies and additional time to develop DTT infrastructure is currently before the country’s Supreme Court. Kenya’s digital transition has been plagued by delays and legal disputes between broadcasters and the country’s regulator.
