Ofcom reportedly set to act on Premier League rights
UK media regulator Ofcom has indicated that it is likely to oblige the English Premier League to make more football available on TV following its investigation into the football body’s rights auction, according to the Telegraph newspaper.
According to the Telegraph, citing multiple unnamed sources, Ofcom will not force the League to make matches played at 15:00 on Saturdays available, but it will intervene to increase the number of matches that can be broadcast live at other times.
Ofcom launched an investigation at the end of last year following a complaint by Virgin Media about the way the Premier League sells rights, alleging that the Premier League’s practices broke UK competition law.
