Firefox OS Matchstick dongle announces Flint, TV partners
Matchstick, a Chromecast-style streaming stick based on Mozilla’s Firefox OS, has announced the launch of an open video-streaming platform called Flint and agreed partnerships with Phillips and TCL.
Phillips and TCL will distribute Flint-enabled products including TVs, monitors, and set-top boxes, with the service designed to offer interactive streaming and screen-to-screen experiences, including two-way interactivity and remote functionality.
“Inspired by Mozilla’s Firefox OS, Flint leads the way to transform how internet video can be organised, managed and consumed,” said Jack Chang, US general manager of Matchstick, predicting that with partners such as Phillips and TCL on board, 1 million Flint devices will be distributed in 2015.
Matchstick launched in October 2014 following a successful Kickstarter campaign, with the firm now aiming to monetise screen-to-screen streaming and interactivity using the Flint platform.
