ARCEP launches review of 700MHz band
French telecom regulator ARCEP has launched a strategic review of spectrum requirements for high-speed mobile services related to the future of the 700MHz band currently used for digital-terrestrial broadcasting.
The review follows the recent announcement by the French government that it would proceed to auction the 700MHz band next year.
ARCEP is launching a public consultation on mobile broadband that will last two months, looking at the reuse of existing frequencies with more efficient technologies as well as the reallocation of 700MHz.
The government has established a commission for the modernization of audiovisual distribution, comprising four parliamentary deputies and four senators.
The ARCEP study will seek to identify issues related to the allocation of the 700MHz band to mobile operators, including both technical and competition aspects.
