New development chief for Comedy Central
Comedy Central has named Joe McVey as head of development.
McVey, whose appointment is effective immediately and who will report to into Lourdes Diaz, vice-president, head of global production and development, will be charged with sourcing and developing original commissions, not only for the UK channel but for Viacom International Media Networks’ channels around the world.
McVey has spent the majority of his career in production and most recently has worked as a freelance executive producer for Comedy Central UK developing and producing Drunk History, scheduled for broadcast early next year. Previously, he developed and produced comedy and entertainment shows for the likes of Thames, Roughcut, Tiger Aspect, Endemol and Monkey Kingdom.
“I’m really excited to join Comedy Central and enter the world of commissioning,” said McVey.
“I will be investing in a smart jacket and a copy of the commissioner phrase book. So expect me to start saying things like ‘does this cut through?’, ‘does it land with our demo?’ and a thousand versions of ‘I’ll get back to you’.”
