Tele2 Russia teams up with SPB TV to launch OTT TV service
Russian mobile operator Tele2 has teamed up with technology provider SPB TV to launch an OTT TV service.
The service gives Tele2 3G users the ability to view over 60 Russian and international channels, which will also be available via fixed broadband.
The Tele2 TV service will be available to Android device users, who represent about two thirds of the Tele2 base, and the app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. Versions for iOS and Windows Phone are expected soon, according to SPB TV. The service will be available free fir the first three days and users will subsequently be charged RUB7 (€0.10) per day to access it.
Tele2, jointly owned by Tele2 Russia and Rostelecom, currently operates 3G services in St Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk. The company this week said it had signed an agreement to provide telecom services in the Ryazan region.
Tele2 this week reported it had 35.375 million subscribers and posted revenues of RUB24.9 billion and EBIDTA of RUB6.6 billion for the third quarter.
