Samsung and M-GO launch 4K VoD service
Samsung has launched an ultra high-definition (UHD) transactional VoD store on its line of 4K TVs in the US, in partnership with Technicolor and DreamWorks-owned on-demand service M-GO.
The deal between Samsung Electronics America and M-GO will mark the first launch of a UHD transactional VoD streaming service in the US, according to the partners.
The service will go live with a “select number” of 4K titles, which is set to expand to “100 movie and TV shows” by the end of the year, according to M-GO.
The UHD content will cost US$1-2 more to rent and US$3-5 more to buy than regular HD titles.
“Samsung has a long history of technological innovation, and by working with M-GO, we will bring our customers an unparalleled viewing experience and provide customers more choice and access to UHD content at home,” said Eric Anderson, vice-president of content and product solutions at Samsung Electronics America.
In July, Samsung announced it was closing its Samsung Video and Media Hub at the end of the month, transitioning users over to the M-GO movie and TV rental service. Announcing the move, Samsung said that the decision was part of its ongoing strategy to deliver “great content experiences” on Galaxy mobile devices and Samsung smart TVs.
