Zambia’s Muvi TV moves into expansion phase
Zambian pay TV operator Muvi TV has doubled the digital channel line-up it broadcasts via Eutelsat’s 7B satellite after signing a new capacity agreement with Germany-based playout provider Stellar.
Muvi TV has upped its offering from the six channels launched last year to 12, including popular Nigerian services, new Muvi-branded services, news channels and sports channels including German Bundesliga football coverage. It is also delivering a user-generated content offering.
Muvi TV broadcasts a range of free-to-air channels including Africa TV, Emmanuel TV and Prism Africa across Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Mozambique, while the subscription channels are available to Zambian homes that sign up for a Muvi TV smartcard and decoder. Subscribers pay the affordable monthly fee through a local mobile phone network.
According to Eutelsat, Muvi TV plans a further expansion in second quarter 2015 using capacity booked on Eutelsat 7B.
““Our tremendous growth over the last five years has been underpinned by our relationships with top technology partners. We are pleased to cement these partnerships with long-term agreements with two top providers – with Eutelsat for satellite capacity and with Stellar for play-out and turnaround services,” said Muvi TV CEO Steve Nyirenda.
