UPC Cablecom launches fixed line phone rates via mobile
Liberty Global-owned Swiss cable operator UPC Cablecom has launched its new phone app, giving its fixed phone customers the ability to make landline-rated calls via their mobile phones when they are out and about.
Customers can download the iOS or Android app to their smartphone, register via the My UPC customer portal, and then make and receive calls via WLAN or 3G/4G.
The app will enable all Cablecom fixed network telephony customers to be contacted on their smartphones and make calls on the go at the same rates as from their fixed network phone. However, although the app is free to use with WLAN, charges may be incurred with the mobile provider when using the app via 3G/4G, depending on the mobile subscription.
Customers with the app can be contacted on their fixed network phone and on up to three smartphones using the same number.
The app will be available for all customers from January 1, when Cablecom amends its HD Cable Connection offer to include fixed telephony as well as TV and broadband, in agreement with the Swiss price regulator. The triple-play offering will be available for CHF29.95 a month.
