On-demand boost and mixed fortunes for TDC’s TV activities
Danish telco TDC, which also operates the YouSee cable network, has seen the number of downloads of its Play on-demand app grow strongly since the launch of enhanced Play apps for both its TDC and YouSee brands on October 6.
TDC reported 400,000 YouSee Play downloads since launch alongside 300,000 TDC Play downloads. The service now includes up to 100 live channels as well as startover and TV archive content.
TDC had 1.404 TV revenue generating units as of September 30, up from 1.373 million at the same point last year.
The number of YouSee cable customers fell over the course of the year to September from 1.164 million in 2013 to 1.156 million this year, while the number of TDC and Fullrate IPTV customers rose from 209,000 to 248,000.
Over the course of the third quarter, the rise in the IPTV base of 7,000 was cancelled out by the 8,000 dip in YouSee’s base.
The share of RGUs with an entry-level package only rose over the year from 25.8% to 27.8%. ARPU for YouSee was stable at DKK233 (€31.30), while ARPU for TDC/Fullrate customers fell from DKK323 to DKK312.
Norwegian cable operator Get will be included in TDC’s results from the fourth quarter. The Danish telco acquired Get on October 20 for DKK12.5 billion. TDC also recently acquired energy company Trefor’s 14,000-strong TV base.
