Pay TV and consumer business push down TF1
A declining pay TV business dragged French commercial broadcaster TF1’s results for the first nine months of the year down, with the pay TV arm recording a 5.8% fall to €99.3 million.
TF1 also experienced a decline in its consumer services business, notably in DVD sales. Consumer services revenue was down 5.1% to €148.3 million.
Overall, TF1’s revenues for the first nine months rose by 2.3% to €1.194 billion, boosted by a modest increase in advertising sales and an increase in content sales revenue, helped by the resale of rights to the World Cup earlier this year.
Net profit from ongoing activities was pushed down by costs associated with the World Cup to €32.3 million, down 15%, but actual net profit was boosted by the sale of Eurosport, up 276% to €347.7 million.
