TV revenues to reach €424.7 billion in 2018
Global TV revenues will climb from €368.9 billion in 2014 to €424.7 billion in 2018, marking an average annual growth rate of 3.6%, according to new stats by research and consultancy organisation IDATE.
According to IDATE’s TV and video services report, pay TV will continue to be the main source of TV revenue up to 2018, bringing in €195.9 billion in 2018.
However, pay TV growth is expected be 2.8% between 2014 and 2018, less than the 6.1% growth figure between 2010 and 2013.
Advertising revenue will climb 4.8% a year up to 2018, compared to 4.6% per year over the past four years and will reach €193 billion in 2018, according to IDATE.
Revenue generated by video on demand services is tipped to climb to €34.4 billion in 2018, up 131.5% compared to 2013. VoD will also represent more than double hard copy sales, which will be €15.5 billion in 2018, said IDATE.
“The hard copy market will continue to shrink across the globe, losing close to a quarter of its value in 2014, despite the growth of Blu-ray,” said IDATE.
The research added that: “Funding from TV licensing fees will continue to increase significantly: by an average 1.5% a year, to reach 36 billion EUR in 2018.”
