Abox42 to showcase third generation hybrid STBs
Abox42 is due to unveil its new line of third-generation of hybrid DVB set-top boxes with full IPTV and OTT capabilities at IBC.
The smart set-top box maker will launch three models of its new M-Series of devices, with all three to include integrated web functionalities.
The M15-S2 model will include DVB-S2 support for satellite TV reception; the M15-T2 is designed for reception of DVB-T and DVB-T2 signals; and the M15-CO is for use in DVB-C cable networks.
All three STBs will support the new Abox42 OPX TV client, which is designed to have an easy-to-use interface with seamless integration of DVB and IP service delivery.
Key services in the M15 set-tops include: unified channel lists for DVB and IP channels; multi-language EPG with extended content like long descriptions, pictures and trailers; local and network PVR and time-shift support; forwards and backwards EPG for catch-up and restart TV; and integration of third party TV apps like VOD portals.
“Building the new M15-Series DVB Hybrid SmartSTBs with our advanced software stack enables our customers to build next generation services with an unbeatable user experience and a clear upgrade path to hybrid functionality thus giving them the essential competitive advantages in changing and growing new market,” said Matthias Greve, CEO of Abox42.
The M15-Series also includes an advanced HTML5 browser with support of multiple browser tabs and HbbTV and Red-Button services. Its SmartSDK supports a wide range of streaming formats for live and on-demand content like DVB, IP Multicast, RTP, RTSP, HLS, Dash and Smooth Streaming. The boxes are based on the latest Broadcom chipsets.
