DNA pushes forward with DTT reorganisation

Finnish cable and telecom operator is transferring the MTV Sport 2 and MTV Fakta pay TV channels from the existing Digital digital-terrestrial TV network its own DTT network from September 1 as part of a reorgansiation fo the country’s DTT infrastructure to enable a larger and higher-quality channel offering. 

DNA launched its own DVB-T2-based network in 2010, running in parallel with the Digita network. The DNA network currently offers 20 stjadard definition and eight HD channels.

Finnish DTT users require two antennas to receive the full range of channels available as the networks operate in parallel on deifferent frequencies, with Digital available in UHF and DNA’s network available in VHF. By operating two networks – one based on UHF and one on VHF – DNA says it will be able to provide the same services and picture quality on DTT as is available via cable.

“About one half of Finnish households receive their TV channels through the terrestrial network. DNA’s goal is that all of them would have the opportunity to receive broadcasts from both terrestrial networks, and therefore have access to the entire channel coverage and the HD channels as well,” says Pekka Väisänen, VP for consumer business at DNA.
