Freesat launches Android mobile app

UK free-to-air satellite operator Freesat has launched an Android version of its Freesat App, which lets viewers manage and control their TVs via mobiles and tablets. 

The app, which is available from today on the Google Play Store, is optimised for devices running Android 4.0 and above, including phones and tablets from Samsung, Google and Sony.

It features a TV guide with curated recommendations on what to watch on both live TV and on-demand, and also lets users record shows remotely.

“When we launched the Freesat iOS App earlier this year, our focus was to deliver an experience that would be a game changer for free TV viewers and its popularity surpassed our expectations,” said Freeview managing director, Emma Scott.

“Following feedback from some of the over 200,000 people who downloaded the Freesat app, we have worked hard to match that success with an app optimised for the Android market.”
