ProSiebenSat.1 Group extends Studiocanal deal
ProSiebenSat.1 Group has extended its contract with Studiocanal Germany, giving it exclusive free TV rights to productions from US film studio Lionsgate for the production period 2015 to 2017.
The rights apply to ProSiebenSat.1’s free TV stations in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and the deal also includes second pay TV and video-on-demand licenses.
Future content that will be included in the agreement includes young adult trilogy Chaos Walking and the adaptation of the best-selling novel The Glass Castle, starring Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence.
In the past, ProSiebenSat.1 Group’s collaboration with Studiocanal has seen it secure licensing rights to movies such as the four-part US blockbuster The Hunger Games.
“By extending the agreement, we will continue to offer our viewers movies from the US’s best independent studio. In order to ensure that our stations remain attractive and successful, it is very important to have long-standing collaborations that tie us to successful partners like Studiocanal and Lionsgate,” said ProSiebenSat.1 Media’s executive vice president of group programming acquisitions, Rüdiger Böss.
