Twitter buys video platform SnappyTV
Twitter has bought video platform SnappyTV in a deal it said would make it easy for TV broadcasters, businesses, and event producers to share videos on the social network.
SnappyTV’s platform lets users edit and share TV and video clips, and is already “widely used” by brands and Twitter’s media partners to distribute video on the microblogging network, according to Twitter.
“While we continue to invest in SnappyTV’s product and integrate it more tightly with Twitter, we also plan to maintain our partners’ ability to post high-quality videos to other platforms. Our goal is to help publishers quickly share great moments from events so people can experience those moments as they happen,” said Twitter product management director, Balijeet Singh.
In a blog post announcing the deal, SnappyTV said that joining Twitter will allow it to “provide an even better product” and bring the platform to more content owners and event organisers throughout the world.
“When we created SnappyTV four years ago, we believed in the importance of mobile, as a way for people to share important moments, and in the value of social, so that people could experience those moments together. Over the years, we’ve developed a close partnership with Twitter –– we’ve worked together to make it easy for publishers to bring video clips to Twitter, both organically and with sponsors via Twitter Amplify, and we’ve also built Twitter data directly into our editing platform,” said SnappyTV.
The firm offers a cloud-based, live video platform designed to makes TV and live web streams “social, mobile and viral.” The deal marks Twitter’s latest push into the TV space, following its acquisition of UK-based social TV analytics firm SecondSync and France’s Mesagraph earlier this year. Terms of the SnappyTV deal were not disclosed.
