Al Jazeera launches Virgin Media TiVo app

News channel Al Jazeera has launched a news app on the Virgin Media TiVo platform in the UK.

The app will make Al Jazeera available live and on demand for Virgin Media TV TiVo users. Subscribers will be able to view Al Jazeera’s news and programmes on demand for the first time and users will be able to bookmark videos and set up a folder for favourite programmes.

The app can be accessed via the red button on both of Al Jazeera’s linear channels Al Jazeera English and Al Jazeera Arabic or through the Apps and Games menu on the TiVo box.

Both Al Jazeera channels are available in the M+ TV package but the app will be made accessible to over two million Virgin Media TiVo customers.

“People want to consume news and documentaries in an interactive manner based on their terms, needs and requirements,” said Ehab Sahawneh, executive director of marketing and distribution at Al Jazeera.

“Al Jazeera’s presence on multiscreen platforms is reshaping how people watch and interact with news and programmes. Our partnership with Virgin Media is part of the ongoing strategy of Al Jazeera’s multi-screen distribution programme which encompasses all our new digital platforms and content.”
