Applicaster supports MegaFon World Cup second screen service
Russian mobile service provider MegaFon is using multiscreen technology provider Applicaster’s platform to deliver enhanced coverage of the World Cup on second-screen devices.
The Smotri+ TV app developed by Applicaster was downloaded 600,000 times ahead of the Winter Olympics earlier this year, with an additional 150,000 downloads for the Hockey World Cup, according to the company.
The Smotri+ app was created and is serviced by Applicaster for MegaFon subsidiary MegaLabs, and enables viewers to watch live broadcast of sports events, access additional content, and get an aggregated stream of the highlights of each game in the various tournaments. Smotri+ also offers an EPG for browsing the tournaments schedule, placing reminders for select broadcasts, share experiences online on social networks and inviting Facebook friends to watch the competitions together.
MegaFon provides services in Russia, Tajikistan and in the Georgian breakaway republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
“MegaFon is keen on providing its users with the most engaging mobile experience, via offering fast access as well as interesting and exciting content,” says Andrey Kushnarev, director of content and media at MegaLabs.
“Usage of Smotri+ to date was a huge success and we are committed to continue and provide our users with live and play by play engaging sports programming wherever they wish to watch it.”
