OTT competition heats up as HBO shows land on Amazon
The first wave of HBO programming has landed on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video service in the US, giving the streaming service a slew of premium content not available on its major rival, Netflix.
Amazon sealed the deal for the HBO content last month and the content has now started feeding through to its streaming service in the US.
The deal covers a raft of HBO catalogue titles and some new series. All seasons of The Sopranos, The Wire, Deadwood, Rome and Six Feet Under can now be streamed on-demand on Amazon’s service and some seasons of newer shows including True Blood, Boardwalk Empire and Treme are also available.
The programming agreement also covers HBO’s original movies and titles including Mary and Martha, Temple Grandin and You Don’t Know Jack are on Instant Video. Docs are also included, giving Amazon subs specials including When the Levees Broke and Ghosts of Abu Ghraib.
