Orion Express launches satellite broadband

Russian DTH pay TV provider Orion Express has introduced a two-way satellite internet service as part of its offering.

The service offers up to 10Mbps internet access and is available for both residential and business users who can receive signals from the Horizons-2 satellite at 85° East. It is aimed at users in areas without access to fixed line internet services or 3G/4G wireless services.

Orion Express technical director Konstantin Saltykov said that about 30% of the operator’s subscribers in rural areas did not have access to fixed line services. He said the service is also aimed at users who wish to connect second homes in the countryside to the internet.
