YouTube dominates video streaming, says NY Film Academy poll
YouTube has a “significant” lead over pay video services including Netflix and iTunes, according to research by the New York Film Academy.
The poll of 1,546 people – both US and non-US residents – found that 78.6% named YouTube as their service of choice for streaming movies and TV shows.
Second place rival Netflix was used by 54.6%, while Vimeo took third place with 28.9% of individuals using the service.
Of the respondents, 46.9% said they use streaming sites every day, with 45% using them “every few days.” In a single day, 29.8% said they spend one to two hours streaming video, while 23.5% spend two to three hours a day.
Laptops were the most commonly-used device for accessing content, with 78.5% using these, followed by smartphones at 49.4% and tablets at 27.9%.
